LaGRANGE, Ga. (AP) _ Officials say a prison inmate in west Georgia died when a piece of limestone hit him in the neck just a day before he completed a three-year sentence.

Authorities say 40-year-old John Filmore Glass Junior of Tallapoosa was pronounced dead at West Georgia Medical Center just before noon Wednesday, about an hour after the accident.

The warden at the Troup County Public Work Camp, Dexter Wells, said Glass was on a grass-cutting detail when a bush hog hit a chunk of limestone and sent a piece flying into his neck.

State Corrections officials say Glass was to have completed a burglary sentence yesterday.

Wells says many inmates stay at the work camp the day before they're released to get their belongings in order, but that Glass didn't want to leave his route.
