SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Students in 45 Broward County schools have raised enough money to build 11 schools in Kenya.

Through bake sales, walkathons and donations over the last year, the kids scraped together $93,450.14 for Free the Children, a Toronto-based organization that works with children around the world.

The idea came about following a program on WSVN-Fox 7 about TV news anchor Reed Cowan. He was working to raise money for Free the Children in memory of his 4-year-old son, who had died in an accident.
