NAPLES, Fla. (AP) —

A Canadian man evading law enforcement more than two decades has been arrested in Florida.

Douglas Elmore Brenner was wanted for alleged sexual assault on a juvenile under the age of 14. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and officers from two local agencies found him in a Homestead motel.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office got a tip from Brenner's former roommate he'd been hiding out in the area the past 15 years. Brenner had assumed the identity of a dead man in 1986 after somehow getting ahold of the deceased's birth certificate.

He fled Collier County shortly after the investigation started, and ICE helped track him to Miami-Dade.

Brenner will appear before an immigration judge, and be turned over to Canadian authorities if he's ordered deported.
