A national survey shows that teenage girls portray themselves much differently online than in person.
The Girl Scouts of the USA released the survey which included over one-thousand girls ages 14 through 17. It finds that girls use social networking sites to make themselves "cooler than they really are."
In person, girls say they come across as smart, kind and a good influence, whereas online, girls consider themselves fun, funny and social.
Local Facebook user Felice Primrose says, "People put a lot of stuff on Facebook that's not true. And girls in particular I think put a lot of stuff on Facebook and pictures and stuff. And when u see them in person they really aren't like that."
The study also shows that girls with low self-esteem are more likely to admit that their Facebook profile does not match their in-person image.
And 56% of girls surveyed agree that social networking helps them feel closer to their friends.
