Few things snap you back to reality like a well written spanking from a viewer. While we always get a good bit of feedback, it’s been a long time since one viewer really laid the wood to me. And there was no fake names or anonymous dodging, she put her first and last name and was damn proud of it. Since she didn’t give me permission to use it, I will just call her Dotty. She thought something I said was totally outrageous and just plain ignorant. We sort of agreed to disagree, and after a cooling off period things got much more cordial. She made some very good points about personal responsibility. Where we had our disagreement was based on the fact that her story of strength and dedication was not everyone’s story.

Actually her issue was not the point of this blog. The point is that someone had the guts to sign their real name to a blistering note. I have written about this before, but Dotty gave me hope. Hope that all the walls we hide behind in our new electronic communications…all the while anonymously lobbing hand grenades over those walls…are only as tall as the people crouching behind them. Dotty stood up tall and took her best shot. She did that with her name proudly displayed.

We need a few more Dotty’s in this world. At the very least, it’s refreshing to see exactly who is hitting you in the face with a 2 x 4.

To Paul B: The poster who you are falsely accusing of stating Yordon had a hidden motivation for using the word Dotty was spot on. There was nothing hidden about it as Dotty means crazy and Yordon was trying to have the last word in sending the writer a hidden message. Very classless as he did not anticipate that the readers would figure out the meaning of Dotty. Very classless on both parts of PaulB and Yordon.

Gary, You ramble - makes you sound retarded, I KNOW you are not, so please get more focused on your topic and allow each one one minute to respond on topic. You have a great opportunity to inform on local issues which we need badly, be prepared, be professional, be precise in stating your topic. Give your guest time to give his/her point without constant interrupting - Robin is really bad about interrupting, she's intelligent and knows how to get her point across much better than you or Sean. You are the host, control the show.

Gary, It is hard to be a Dotty. The problem with the Internet is that once your on "the record" it is permanent and you never know who will see it and how it will impact your future. For instance, things I say in conversation may only go so far as the person I'm talking to, but if I leave a blog message, I don't know who will see it. The other problem with using your real name in blog postings is the fact there is rarely the opportunity to explain the "whole" story. You're only given 1000 characters and the message you're trying to convey may take longer to deliver.

Give us "Dotty's" real name. I'd like to send her flowers!

Bestowing the virtues on a person for using their name but referring to them in an anonymous name YOU gave them. Does this even make sense? I did not think so until I looked up the word Dotty. Here is the definition of Dottydot·ty (dt) adj. dot·ti·er, dot·ti·est 1. a. Mentally unbalanced; crazy. b. Amusingly eccentric or unconventional. c. Ridiculous or absurd: a dotty scheme. Is this a public message to Dotty about how you really feel?
