Remove wilted outer leaves and wash cabbage. Crisp in cold water if wilted. Cut into wedges and remove center core; or shred coarsely.
Remove outer onion skin. Slice into thin sections.
Blanch cabbage and onion in a pot of salted boiling water for approximately 3 minutes. Drain.
Meanwhile, melt margarine in a sauté pan and add spices.
Pour margarine mixture over cabbage and toss until evenly coated. Test, preseason, then serve.
