Our supermarkets are filled with products from all over the world, and one that's been getting a lot of buzz has been linked to that "super food" category - foods high in antioxidants or fiber, or low in fat.
The super food list includes:
Let's look at the acai berry. It grows in South America, in the Amazon rainforest. You may have noticed it not as a fresh berry but as one of the "in" ingredients and exotic flavors in juices and other products at the market and also sold online, and mixed with other favorite flavors like pomegranate, plum and currant. It's even in a refreshing sorbet!
Here in the States, many people are enjoying the acai's rich berry taste, which is somewhat like a tart blueberry. The acai has a deep purple color, and it's that rich color that holds all the antioxidant properties. Many people claim to feel benefits from it and have more energy...just as they might from any of our super foods. The reason to enjoy super foods like acai and others isn't to think of them as a cure or medicine, because we can't prove that and it seems to differ from person to person, but rather to enjoy them in a healthy lifestyle - as well as treating ourselves to exotic tastes!
