Coaching legends, and friends. The careers of Bobby Bowden and Tony Dungy have followed similar paths. From the years of consecutive playoff and bowl game appearances, to the Championships, to their mission after retirement, they're two coaches of the same high esteem, with one leading the way for the other.

Tony Dungy said, "No question about it. As a young coach, when I was starting out, to see Bobby Bowden, to realize that you could be a gentleman. You could treat your players the right way with respect. Put your Christian values out there, but still be very, very successful. That was just great for me to see, and a tremendous role model."

Even the way Dungy holds an audience has flashes of Coach Bowden. At a recent FCA meeting, Dungy had the crowd laughing, "I found out something I didn't know about Coach Bowden. His first head coaching job in college, I was four years old, and I retired before he did!"

Dungy admits he's followed Bowden's lead, as both men now have left a lasting impact on the game of football, and are still working to impact the lives of young people.

The sport of football was fortunate to have two such men. I attended Florida State and witnessed firsthand the genius of the coach and the warmth of the man.
