There is no offseason for Joe Taylor. As soon as one season ends, his attention immediately turns to the next one.
FAMU head football coach Joe Taylor says,
"I always look for progress. Wherever we can see progress. I don't care how fast or how slow but as long as we can see progress, that to me is always a good thing."
Progress starts by planning for the future. In the months between the Rattlers final game and spring practice, Coach Taylor and the rest of the coaching staff rack up the miles on the recruiting trail.
Taylor adds,
"It's all about cultivating relationships. Each coach, as you said, has about eighty to eighty five different high schools that is under his umbrella. He must keep a relationship going with those coaches because even though the coaches may not have a super star this year, at some point he will. We don't want to be that type of program that only goes to your high school when you have a super star."
It helps having some prospects in the Rattlers own back yard.
Taylor adds,
"That's why we're so excited about Trainor being our quarterback. We have Willie Ferrell, who is our linebacker. Then we just lost Isaac West and Chris Sands but we're looking to still recruit here and then we always move out according to whatever our needs are."
