After six seasons, sixty five wins, and two national titles, Urban Meyer is stepping down as head coach of the Florida Gators. Following their 37-24 win over Penn State, he has no regrets about leaving.
Former Florida head football coach Urban Meyer says,
"Well I'm at full peace because I saw a bunch of smiles in the locker room. Locker rooms really aren't very much fun when you're not smiling or there's pain in your stomach or your chest and everything else and that was a lot of fun in there."
An (8-5) finish that will leave Florida unranked for the first time since Meyer took over the program was not how he or the fans pictured how his final season would come to an end, but the Outback Bowl win gets the new year started on a right note with a new head coach set to take over.
Meyer adds,
"It feels great because Will Muschamp is getting a great group of men ending on a positive note. It's aweful in the offseason. We've only had one time when we've had to go through an offseason where we lost a bowl game. It's terrible. Will Muschamp is getting a football team that is going to have some bright eyes and ready to get back to work and get better next year. Get back to where we need to be."
