Lincoln head coach Yusuf Shakir couldn't hide the tears any longer. The Trojans upset undefeated Armwood to bring home their third state title in school history.
Lincoln head football coach Yusuf Shakir says,
"It's all about finishing, that it, you just have to finish. You have to win the games that count, that's it."
The Trojans did just that.
After a 27-13 loss against Madison County in week seven the Trojan's were (3-4) and Lincoln's season looked like it would have an early ending, but the Trojans rallied and won eight straight games.
Yusuf Shakir adds,
"We're Lincoln, you know, we have talent. We knew we had to buckle down and our kids knew they had to be held accountable for everything and we just had to play together as a team and as a unit."
The win over Armwood may not have been the prettiest win Lincoln had all season.
Shakir adds,
"I don't care, we won. I could care less."
With the win coach Shakir joins FHSAA hall of fame member David Wilson as the only two head coaches to lead Lincoln to a state title.
