Athens, GA -- After improving its season mark to 8-1, the University of Georgia softball team ranked No. 13 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the ESPN.com/USA Softball polls released Tuesday.

Florida maintained its top spot for the second week in a row in the USA Today/NFCA poll while Alabama claimed second. No. 3 California comes next followed by Arizona State and Washington to round out the top five.

California was tabbed No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll with Alabama following. The Gators hold the third spot while Arizona State and UCLA finish the top selections.

Last weekend Georgia put together a 4-0 record in the Georgia Softball Classic, including two shutout wins on Saturday over Western Illinois and Buffalo. Senior Ashley Pauly led the offensive attack after hitting .545 with six hits and seven RBI. In the circle, senior Erin Arevalo notched two wins, as she struck out a total of 15 batters while giving up only one run.

The Bulldogs return to action in the Cathedral City Classic in California this weekend with their opening game scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET against No. 15/16 Arizona. Georgia will then face Cal State Fullerton after its game with the Wildcats before taking on No. 5/7 Washington, No. 7/5 UCLA and No. 6 Oklahoma the following two days.
