When you were a child...Who enrolled you in school and helped you
learn to read? For most of us, it was our parents. But children in
foster care don't have parents guiding their education. For that
reason, DCF in partnership with our own Forever Family program
announce the Everybody's A Teacher initiative, featuring Florida's new
Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll.

Child 1: Become a veterinarian one day
Child 2: A police
Child 3: I want to make a difference in someone's life.

Anna Johnson: EVERYONE DREAMS OF THE FUTURE…
SADLY, MOST CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE, WILL NEVER ACHIEVE THOSE DREAMS, IN FACT, APPROXIMATELY 3 OUT OF 4 OF THEM NEVER EVEN GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL.
Traci Leavine: When a student in foster care changes schools they lose 4 to 6 months of educational progress.

Anna: FOREVER FAMILY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, AND THE "M" NETWORK, WANTS TO CHANGE THAT THROUGH OUR “EVERYBODY'S A TEACHER” INITIATIVE.
Lt. Governor Jennifer Carrol: As a person who was adopted, I can tell you, the information you're about to see is critical.
Mary Cagle: Today was the kick-off of, hopefully, community conversations around the state, about kids in foster care, and their educational outcomes.
Danielle Johnson Small, Formerly in foster care: It's extremely important that students in the foster care system have consistency.
Mary Cagle: Draw a baseline, make an action plan to address the deficiencies...
Nat Sound from orientation: Avoid labels, calling them foster children...
Mary Cagle: and then track where we go...
Alan Abramowitz; We can make the biggest difference in these children's lives by ensuring their education.
Andrea Moore: Education is the most basic, most fundamental need beyond safety.
Mary Cagle: Everyone who comes in contact with the child is a teacher...
Andrea: everyone has an opportunity to participate in making things better...
Anna: I'm Anna Johnson AND I'M A TEACHER.
Carroll: I'm Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll and I'm a teacher
Alan: My name is Alan and I'm a teacher
Anna: AND YOU TOO ARE A TEACHER !
