They strive high to magnify the voices of the voiceless: children in foster care. I'm talking about Florida Youth SHINE - a group of current and former youth in foster care who visited our Capitol to make a difference.

Kendra, Youth Shine member:
Basically what we do is we advocate for the rights of our brothers and sisters in Foster Care.

Brian, Youth Shine member:
Army of soldiers just really pushing forward not giving -up constantly fighting thinking about the children in care.

Lieutenant Gov. Jennifer Carroll:
This way they can tell from personal experience what they went trough and how the program can be improved.

House Rep. Richard Glorioso:
And there are a lot of things we can fix that do not cost a lot of money but can make their lives better.

Jesse, Florida Youth Shine:
Currently we are working on an independent living bill. Redesigning the all Independent Living system.

Angelina, Florida Youth Shine:
The bill actually extends Foster Care to the age of 21.

Kendra: Sometimes we are not ready for it and we don't have the support behind us to be independent at age 18.

Angelina: Emphasize more on education and lastly its holds the CBC as well as us accountable for our actions and decisions.

Senator Nan H. Rich: It appears that everybody is pretty much supportive of this piece of legislation.

Jennifer Carroll: To see they have persevere so much and still have the believe that they can accomplish everything it gives me a lot of pride.

Derrick Riggins, State wide Chair, Florida Youth Shine: From the bottom of our hearts we truly thank you for this program because without that we know we weren't able to stand where we are.

To spread the word out there and spread a message make sure every one of our brothers and sisters know what we are advocating for. Know there is somebody out there for them.

That bill they've been working on has run into some difficulties being passed. They were at the capitol today and say many legislators are with them in their fight. You can call 1-888-365-FAMILY. Or log onto
