Thomasville, GA- Christmas came early today for patients at the Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville.
As part of the Georgia Municipal Association's annual Mayors' Motorcade, city officials delivered gifts and personal care items to patients on Thursday.
Santa also came along for the ride, as well as some elementary school Christmas carolers.
It's something that the patients and city officials look forward to every year.
"Everyone deserves to have a smile on their face and everyone deserves to have a nice Christmas," said Allen Powell, the Assistant Fire Chief for Thomasville Fire Rescue. "We enjoy doing this every year; to help those that are less fortunate or those who don't have the ability to go out and enjoy Christmas by shopping or getting gifts."
Organizations throughout Georgia donated all of the gifts and items to make the project possible.
The Mayors’ Motorcade began back in 1958 as a way to provide gifts to patients of each of Georgia’s seven regional mental health hospitals and to raise awareness of the needs of the residents of these facilities.
