A crowd gathered this morning as Thomas County Sheriff R. Carlton Powell kicked off the monthly tax auction.
The properties for sale were taken from owners who had accumulated tax debts from 2007 and 2008.
People from all walks of life came to the event; while some were just curious onlookers, others were there to buy.
Lt. Steven Jones told us, "This is a pretty good turnout ... this is my second one I've done and there are more people here - a good many more people here - than there were at the first one."
Auction attendees told us they had fun and met a lot of interesting people from all walks of life.
By noon, all 20 properties had been sold.
The starting bid for each property is determined by how many backtaxes are owed.
Original owners had until 10 o'clock this morning to pay off their tax debts. Those remaining were sold at auction.
