On September 13, the Boys & Girls Clubs named Theresa Anne Flury as the new President and Chief Executive Officer. Board Chairelect and Search Committee Chair Mike Phillips made the announcement after the full Board approved Flury’s selection in a unanimous vote.
“We had more than 50 qualified applicants for this position, which is a testament to the reputation and community presence of the Boys & Girls Clubs as well as to the strength of our brand,” Phillips said. “Theresa Flury brings a strong record as a child advocate, executive and community leader and we believe she will help us build and strengthen the Clubs going forward.”
Flury now serves as the Executive Director of the Florida
Guardian ad Litem program, serving more than 30,000 abused
and neglected children across the State while supervising 500
staff and more than 8,000 volunteers. She is a former assistant
public defender and state attorney for the 2nd and 11th Judicial
Circuits and has held a number of staff attorney positions in
In accepting the appointment, Flury expressed admiration
for the organization’s record of serving children in the Big Bend
as well as for the selection process itself. “I am excited for the
opportunity to help lead such an important local effort and look
forward to reaching out to both public officials and private
citizens to help build the Clubs and the children we serve.”
Flury succeeds Samuel “Buddy” Streit who announced his
resignation effective October 1st. At the Board’s request, Streit has
agreed to remain on the Board and continue providing guidance and
support to the organization as a volunteer Board member once he
leaves his executive position.
