No one is an expert when it comes to parenting. Some may argue this point, but last I checked children don't come with an instruction manual. After a baby's birth, the happy - yet exhausted - parents are send home with their bundle of joy. No manuals. No how-to book. No instructions, per say. All any parent really has is some advice from those who've walked the parenting road before and their own intuition.
That said, experience counts ... for a lot in many cases. Some experienced parents want to dictate to the younger generations, while others simply want to guide. Malverna Streater is the latter. This self-proclaimed 'motivational mom' is joining me twice a month on Live at Five to talk about everything parenting.
Mal and her husband Bob have been married for 20-plus years and have three boys. Their oldest is 17. The younger two are twins that Mal and Bob welcomed into the world when Mal was 40 years old.
The couple have faced challenges in their time together and their time as parents, but the Streaters believe your experiences only make you stronger and they hope to convey that message to others.
Mal and I will be talking about many parenting topics. If you have a suggestion for a discussion topic, send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Put Positive Parenting in the subject line.
