Tallahassee, Florida --
Our children are our most valuable assets. In an effort to protect our children, the Tallahassee Police Department provides a variety of child safety programs. In addition to Officer Friendly presentations, where officers build a rapport with children and teach them safety habits, the Community Relations Unit offers RADKids.
RADKids teaches children to react when dangerous situations arise. It is a self-empowerment class that educates children (ages7-12) to not just react verbally, but to also react physically. The class teaches children what to do and say when a dangerous or uncomfortable situation occurs. RADKids teaches confidence, self-esteem and the power to make good choices. The class covers topics such as: stranger danger, bullying, dangers of drugs, fire safety, gun safety, assault and abduction recognition and safety. For testimonials of how children have escaped their abductors after attending the RADKids class, go to http://www.talgov.com/tpd/radkids.cfm. As of this date, we have educated and empowered over 150 children in our community.
To register, please contact Officer Susan Newhouse at Susan.Newhouse@talgov.com or by phone at 891-4418. Your child must attend all five days to complete the class and receive a certificate. Please visit the web site to register. The class is limited to 25 students!
