Tallahassee, Florida --
The Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is getting a double dose of help in its efforts to win the ASPCA $125K Challenge. A pair of events is planned for this Saturday, Oct. 9, as the ASC enters the final month of the pet adoption challenge.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ASC and the Southeastern Community Blood Center are teaming up for the third annual Me and My New Best Friend Blood Drive. The event will take place at the ASC, located at 1125 Easterwood Drive (near Tom Brown Park). Everyone who donates blood will receive a voucher for a free pet adoption. Vouchers can be redeemed any time before December 31, 2010. For more information about donating blood please call 877-7181 or visit www.scbcinfo.org.
Meanwhile, a new event, Dogtoberfest, kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fermentation Lounge, located at 113 All Saints Street. Fermentation Lounge is one of the ASC’s Star Agents. At the event, citizens can mingle with some of the adoptable animal stars as well as other animal lovers. There is no charge to attend. Please leave your own canine best friend(s) at home, though, to keep the spotlight on those animals still searching for forever homes.
All month long, adoption fees are being reduced to $15 as the ASC celebrates Adopt-A-Dog month! The reduced fee is good for both dogs and cats to help encourage adoptions in the final push to meet our adoption goal and, hopefully, win the $125,000.
These events are part of the ASC’s efforts to win the ASPCA $125K Challenge. The ASC is one of only 50 animal shelters throughout the United States given the opportunity to compete in the Challenge. The winner of the adoption challenge, sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), will win $100,000. An additional $25,000 will be awarded to the animal shelter with the best community engagement throughout the contest. The City is “Reaching for the Stars” in order to win the entire $125,000. At the mid-way point in the Challenge, the ASC was in second place and the October events will be important as the Center strives for the number one position.
