Some of the students are receiving counseling today. A beloved teacher, Elrea Gibbs, had a heart attack in the middle of seventh period Friday and died later that day. Now, many are mourning the loss of Mrs. Gibbs who was employed by Leon County Schools in 1985.
Principal Dr. Alan Cox is visiting classes all day today to help students cope with the loss.
He said, "I found that to be one of the best things, is to let them raise their hand, ask questions and talk. It kind of helps them a little bit too."
Gibbs was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Principal Dr. Alan Cox and Superintendent Jackie Pons will speaking at her funeral, taking place Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
