At the Elks Lodge Chili Cook Off in October there was some of the best chili being judged. And all that chili cookin' raised $2,850 for "Honoring Our Own American Heroes," also known as HOOAH. The money will help the families of loved ones who are away in Iraq.
Denise Mick, Elks Lodge member who coordinated the cook off says, "Maybe their hot water heater blows up and they don't have any way to to fix it and they need some help and we thought, why couldn't we just find a way to earn some money so they could hire somebody to fix it or buy a new one? Or by coats for the kids, whatever."
The Tallahassee Elks lodge has held their Chilli Cook Off for three years now.
