The Thanksgiving race had a choice of one mile, 5K, 10K, and 15K and it's been going for about 15 years now. A little over 1,200 people participated in this year's Turkey Trot. That's a little less from last year because of the rain this morning.
But regardless, 25-hundred people registered and registration fees are non refundable donations going to the Refuge House and Tallahassee's Homeless Shelter. Runners had to be in Southwood bright and early at 8:00AM this morning, but most of them were more than happy to be there.
Darin Tompkins, who helped organize the race says, "It's a family thing, a lot of families come out. Before the big run there's a one mile fun run, so the kids, they get to do their run and then the Mom, Dads, they get to do their long runs if they like, so it's a fun day."
Tallahassee's Gulf Winds Track Club put on this morning's race and they are not yet sure how much money they raised, but they say it will probably be a lot. Besides family discounts, it cost most of the runners between 10 and 20 dollars to race.
