Christmas Tree Costs Up

The Christmas Tree industry is highly dependent on petroleum. Tallahassee Nurseries says the hike comes from the cost of farming and shipping Christmas Trees. But they also say the price hike varies to individual trees and where local vendors get their trees.

Jason Rock with Tallahassee Nurseries says, "The Christmas Trees from about four feet tall to eight feet tall weren't affected at all from last year's prices, some of the bigger ones, a little bit, a slight increase, but that comes from petroleum being used in every facet of the harvesting of a Christmas tree.

The National Christmas Tree Association says Americans purchased 29 million trees last year and that's down from 33 million in 2003.
