This is the giving season and each year we like to share the stories of some of your neighbors who need a helping hand.

The Christmas Connection helps more than 600 struggling families in the Big Bend each year and perhaps you can help.

A Tallahassee woman is caring for five grandchildren - ages 8 to 14 - after her daughter died of cancer. She wants desperately to keep the children together, but money is tight.

The family needs food, clothes and shoes. The boys all want basketballs, one of the girls wants a doll with hair you can style, and the other would love a make up kit.

This is case #60.

Here are the specific items requested by the family:

girls clothing sizes:
pants - 12 and14
shirts - medium and large
shoes - 6 and 7
underwear - 6

boys clothing sizes:
pants - 14 regular, 14 husky,
34 waist x 36 length
shirts - large and extra large
shoes - 6, 7 and 13
underwear - medium and large

night time pull up diapers -
size extra-large, 40 pounds

glasses for 11 year old boy

If you can help this family or any other, drop donations at the Christmas Connection, 3954 West Pensacola Street. It's open every day: Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm - 5pm. For more information call 850-575-1842 or log on to
