Reverend, Doctor R. B. Holmes Jr. officially announced tonight at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church his 2009 candidacy for president of the convention.

Dr. R.B. Holmes says, "The church must prepare young folk to become entrepreneurs and not on welfare. We're very concerned about prison transformation, so I think what we've done in Tallahassee and by the grace of God, we can duplicate this on a national level."

His running mate, Dr. James A. Adams says, "I do feel that with his leadership we will be able to continue to strengthen our convention, which consists of over 3,000 churches and the ministries because of what he has done here locally."

The National Baptist Convention has an estimated membership of 7.5 million people. Established in 1885, Bethel also says it's the oldest and largest African American religious convention in America.
