Reverend, Doctor R. B. Holmes Jr. officially announced tonight at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church his 2009 candidacy for president of the convention.

Dr. R.B. Holmes says, "The church must prepare young folk to become entrepreneurs and not on welfare. We're very concerned about prison transformation, so I think what we've done in Tallahassee and by the grace of God, we can duplicate this on a national level."

His running mate, Dr. James A. Adams says, "I do feel that with his leadership we will be able to continue to strengthen our convention, which consists of over 3,000 churches and the ministries because of what he has done here locally."

The National Baptist Convention has an estimated membership of 7.5 million people. Established in 1885, Bethel also says it's the oldest and largest African American religious convention in America.

I am concerned with the future of our children & society as a whole. I see people, saved/unsaved being lured into a Babylonian lifestyle. Rev Holmes & Rev Adams’s submissiveness to God’s calling to start a movement to change cities, states, countries, nations, is one to be appreciated. Thanks to God for His unwavering love for His people. The calling these men have answered to is challenging; to free a people from a life of spiritual, economical, social, and moral bondage is of great magnitude, but with GOD, all things are possible. I pray for strength, endurance, reassurance, & encouragement for the wives, children other relatives to hold out to see what the end’s going to be. With this movement, there is Godly hope for all the people of God, esp our children. Glory be to God. I fully support this movement prayerfully, spiritually, financially.

Congratulations to Rev. Holmes. However, I am concerned about the character of some of his supporters. In particular 3 men arriving on the Atlanta flight yesterday morning at 11:30 a.m. My grandmother and mother were on the flight with these men who were dressed well and looking sharp but none of these men were kind and and considerate enough to offer any help as my 75 year old mother and 91 year old grandmother struggled to remove their luggage from the carousel. These men stood right next to them and just watched. When my grandmother admonished these men after they boarded the Bethel Missionary Church van, the driver of the van offered to get off and assist them. But the men just made a sarcastic and rude remark. Gentlemen, get it together!! Be respectful.
