Leon County Offers Safety Training
The recent slaying of the Crawfordville woman found dead in the Apalachicola National Forest prompts safety training for area women.
Forty-six-year-old Cheryl Dunlap's murder still has many community members on-edge. The Leon County Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a two-part personal-safety course for women starting this month.
The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office held a self-defense course a little more than a week ago.
Leon County's first safety training session is set for Tuesday, January 15th, the second is the following Tuesday on the 22nd. Both classes will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office in Leon County.
The safety course was the idea of Captain Gene Revell in light of the murder of Cheryl Dunlap, whose body was found near Bloxham Cut-Off and State Road 20 December 15th.
This safety course is also a good idea for anyone who'd like to add to their New Year's Resolution list. Class size is limited. Contact Sgt. Nancy Burns at (850) 922-3331 if you're interested in signing up.
The first session will include how to be more aware of surroundings, how to prepare for an unforeseen situation and how to resist and escape. The second session will focus on the pros and cons of carrying a firearm and other weapons.
