The Democrats and Republicans watched the caucuses very closely in Florida, trying to get an idea of what to expect down the road. The Democratic Party actually had somewhat of a party watching the caucuses in Tallahassee, and although the Republicans did not have a party, they were certainly watching the caucuses with intent.
Alex Sink, Florida Chief Financial Officer, said, "I'm as interested in the Republican results as I am in the Democratic results, actually. It seems that the polling has been very close and so, uh, I'm waiting here for the next couple of hours to see whether or not we have a surprise tonight."
Jim Greer, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, said, "I'll be watching them with interest, particularly on the Democrat side because the Democrats stand for higher taxes, more government, Republicans stand for less government, less taxes and I want to see who the 'Iowans' choose to be the Democratic nominee."
Republican candidate Rudy Guliani has already begun focusing on the Florida primary at the end of the month. In fact, he intended on going to an event outside of Miami Thursday night, as many more candidates will also be coming and going from Florida throughout the weeks ahead.
