Chief Mosley is the first African American police chief since Monticello became a city 100 years ago. He's been with the department for 16 years now and he says he's ready for the job.

Fred Mosley, the new police chief said, "Well, it's been challenging, it's been an experience, but I'm ready to move on and take this department to the twenty-first century. I'm just happy that the people felt that I was deserving of the honor."

In Monticello, it will also be the first time ever there will be four African American city council members.
