Red Cross Volunteers Meet to Discuss Firing of Chris Floyd

For the Red Cross volunteers we spoke with today, upset is putting it very lightly. They say the message that Chris Floyd had been fired was a blow right to the heart.

CEO Joseph Agostini says the decision was made for personnel issues and he understands how people may react to it. But for many volunteer leaders, they say they don't understand. Now, they are taking action. Over twenty volunteer leaders met here at the public library in downtown Tallahassee to discuss a plan of action that will hopefully help their voices be heard.

Roberta Maddox, a Capital Area Red Cross volunteer said, "I think it's important for the community to understand that Chris Floyd has dedicated 17 years to the community building the community, awareness of disaster and putting in place programs, which assured that if a disaster happens we know what to do."

Some of the volunteers say they would not appear on camera for fear of losing their service with the red cross. From today's meeting they say they will write a letter voicing their concerns and they hope more volunteers and community members will petition with them. Between the volunteers present at the meeting, they say there was over 150 years of Red Cross volunteer experience.

When will the uppers realize that Chris has done much more than work at the RC. He has been instrumental in securing help from businesses and volunteers at a moments notice. He hsa obtained the respect from many chapters acrosss the country and gained the rep as "one who gets things done". I pray that he will be reinstated in his job and allowed to preceed with keeping our chapter of RC as great as it is. Without Chris all that he has put into place over the last 17 years will slowly crumble.

I have heard that there were some serious misteps taken. It is being very secretive in order that he not get in trouble but my source knows that something troubling happened. Whatever it was, she hasnt been told specifically, but that it was borderline criminal.

The news of this has been shocking. Chris has educated our community with invaluable knowledge of disater training and services. He has taken time to assist our teens in becoming leaders and boosting self esteem among our council. Chris has shown that he truly and genuinely cares about the community and thats hard to come by. His dedication and help has been invaluable. This news is devastating and I hope that a resolution can be obtained.

We volunteers need to know the truth. Is this just political head butting or is Chris being accused of mis-deed? He has been very instrumental in developing the respect and trust in the Red Cross in general and this chapter specifically. I have worked with Chris in the RC for nearly 20 years. He lives and breathes RC. He has taught me much about the RC and its work.

Misty, if he was embezzeling money, then he should have been arrested.

how do we know Chris wasn't embezzling money? Maybe the Red Cross is doing Chris a favor by not saying why he was fired. I haven't heard of where Chris has stepped up to defend himself. Has anyone at the RC talked to him? If he's not available, there may be a good reason as to why.....

I am a red cross volunteer. I wa unable to attend our meeting on Monday, because of an emergency. I support Chris 100%and more if that is possible. He is the person that makes the local chapter run but still is not a attention seeker. His worker is very effecient and low-key. His opinion is valued on local, state and national level. I find not to be a overt fighter but one who guietly goes about getting the job done. He has done his job well and I am thankful for having had him and want him back in his position. His job is so much more than Hurricane season preparation and actions. It being there 365days a year in any emergency galvanizing and going into action with very few if any problems. If it is not broken, dont tamper with it you will break it. Please dont anger and hurt the volunters who is the heart andsoul of this organization. I love Chris and the Red Cross, lets go back and do the right thing.
