We've confirmed twenty resignations so far from volunteer leaders, but it will certainly be more than that. Volunteer leaders are individuals with invaluable skills who have dedicated their lives to the Red Cross and this woman is one of them.
Hannie Tterlikkis has served 50 years with the Red Cross and she has 50 year pin to prove it. Twenty-nine of those years were spent right here at our local red cross, but these kinds of awards are not why she has stuck with it. She says, "The award is in the job."
She has keepsakes from all the different countries she's been as a volunteer. When asked why she resigned, she said, "I feel Chris has been unjustly fired for what ever they say the reason is." But that's not the only reason she resigned.
Critics tell Tterlikkis and other volunteers they are letting the community down. But the volunteers say it's the lack of leadership at the local Red Cross letting the community down. And Tterlikkis says the Capital Chapter Red Cross has bigger problems ahead.
She said, "That would now become a mediocre chapter with whoever is going to follow it because he had so much energy and so many programs growing that a regular director will not-I'm sure that will fall
Another volunteer told us Chris Floyd thanks the community for its support, but he is still not ready to comment to the media.
