It was a scene that we rarely see in our area, a big city mayor hiding from "allegations of sex, lies, and steamy text messages" at his vacation home in Tallahassee.
In Summerbrooke, there is rarely a cause for alarm, but for Kwame Kilpatrick, a Florida A & M graduate and now, Mayor of Detroit, there was such cause Thursday night when neighbors say Detroit media waited to ambush the Mayor at his Tallahassee home.
Back in Detroit, people are fired up because Kilpatrick is suspected of lying under oath about an affair with a top aide. A year ago Kilpatrick lost a suit two police officers filed against him. They said they were fired for investigating claims that he used his security to cover up an affair.
Now, text messages have been found on the alleged mistress's phone suggesting such an affair did take place and many Detroit residents are not happy. Some of the Mayor's closest supporters have lost faith in him, saying he abused his power. Mayor Kilpatrick's Tallahassee home is now up for sale, so he might not be coming back anytime soon.
