Democratic Delegate Situation

The Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho says the Florida Democratic delegate situation can and will most likely change after the primaries. He says the state and national party is only squabbling until the parents come home.

Ion Sancho, the Leon County Supervisor of Elections used the analogy of the bickering parties as a family feud. He said, "Big brother and the little brother. And here the little brother did something that the big brother said, 'I told you not to do that,' but the issue is, their not in charge. The parents are going to take over when they get home and the parents are the nominated candidates."

Until the parents come home, many democrats believe their vote will not count with the way things stand. John Rex Marvel with FSU Liberal Groups is concerned. He said, "The votes we have in the primary are not going to be counted towards the national convention in the democratic party and only half the delegates in the republican party."

As of now, Sancho says it's true, Republicans have half delegation and Democrats have none. He says those are the rules made by current party officials and from his point of view, that will change for all states lacking delegates when the national conventions roll around this summer.

He said, "With all due respect to the people involved in the squabble the process is continuing the way it always has and I fully expect to see complete delegations seated in both parties for both Michigan and Florida."

Although it might still seem complicated, the supervisor of elections office encourages everyone to get out and vote, even democrats because the delegate situation will more than likely change.
