The event, called "Sleeping Out for the Homeless," began Friday night at 10:00. It was put on by Phi Beta Sigma from FAMU.
Vincent Adejumo with the fraternity said, "Homelessness is a great, great big deal in America today with the sinking economy. I know personally, I was almost homeless. My Mom lost her job and we almost lost our house."
The kids slept outside, but had a few perks. EA Games, a video game developer, previewed one of its new games and a live DJ kept them entertained. Phi Beta Sigma hopes to raise it's goal of 1,000 cans. They currently have 350.
