A Florida lawmaker is sponsoring a bill that would create a "Confederate Heritage" license plate. Representative Don Brown says the bill has nothing to do with race and points out that he recognized another bill to rename part of a highway after civil rights leader Doctor Martin Luther King Junior.

Jonathan Pacha, a Tallahassee resident said, "If that's what us southern people choose to use as our heritage, like a symbol of our heritage, I mean, go ahead, that's who we are."

Alma Gonzalez, another Tallahassee resident said, "I think that people ought to celebrate their heritage and they certainly ought to celebrate their background and what they came from and their history. Unfortunately, there are ways we can do it that are less divisive."

The "Confederate Heritage" tag proceeds would go to educational programs run by Sons of Confederate Veterans, graveyard maintenance and museum exhibits.

We cannot afford to have Florida forever associated with known racist symbols. Let Governor Crist hear your voice LOUD and CLEAR - http://www.floodthelines.com/confederatetag/

Seems like lots of folks believe that it is no big deal to deprive one group of displaying pride in their heratage while demanding that their heratige be recognized AND respected. Black, white, yellow, red, or purple with green polkadots, that just ain't right. Think about it. PLEASE.

anonymous.... Only 5% of slaves were brought to America, and if you dont like the history, then you are free to leave...unlike your ancestors. I can trace my family back to 1200 when vikings were part of the slave trade, do you hear us crying...its the past...if this group is going to do good things with the money...allow the tag but I also want my viking heritage tag...a longship with swords and armour would be nice as that is my heritage...

To Anonymous- your ancestors may not have asked to come to America, but were sold into slavery by their own race. To Ann- understand the anger that you are hearing and what people are saying that the anger stems from: it's about equal rights. These days there is more racism coming from the black community, the hate for white people continues to be taught to the children in the home, how else could you explain the amount of disdain held by black people against us? The sheer rudeness we experience every day in any given situation. We're starting to get mad about it and what we are saying is we will not tolerate it. We are equal in every aspect, start teaching your children that, and teaching them what this country has done for them to have the equality and opportunitiues they have. If the white man hadn't helped the black race achieve this, you wouldn't have it to this day. Racism exist to this day BECAUSE of the black race. We got over it, you won't let it die.

The citizens of this country do not need anything else to help to divide it. As rich and resourceful this country is, we have just as many issues as other countrys and we should have grown past it by now. This kind of stuff is what is holding us from making the progress the US desperately need. There is absolutely too much ignorance in this country. To make this confederate flag an option for a tag choice is not needed! That was nothing positive for our country from the original creation of this flag.

ME, I SORRY TO SAY THAT PREJUDICE WOULD NEVER STOP BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE PREJUDICE AND EVERY CHANCE THEY GET THEY WILL MAKE IT KNOWN...I AGREE, BEING A BLACK WOMAN IF IT HERTIAGE THEN BE PROUD, BUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE FLAG IS HOW THE "KKK" DISPLAYED THE FLAG WHEN THEY LYNCH, BURN CROSSES AND KILLED BLACK OVER 50 YEARS AGO...I UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WISH BLACKS WOULD STOP BRINGING IT UP BUT YOU ALL HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IT IS PART OF OUR HISTORY REGARDLESS OF WHAT SOME WHITES MIGHT THINK...AND TO BOB AFRICAN DID NOT ASKS TO COME TO AMERICA THEY WERE FORCE IN TO SLAVERY.

As in all history from the beginning of time there has always and will be Good and BAD events in life but they ALL make up the history of each country. So for the ones in this country who want to forget the BAD and remember th GOOD well THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT WORKS! AS far as what was done to people in the early part of our country black and Indian QUIT CRYING over it and MOVE ON. If we had equal treatment in this country there are people who would really have to get out and make a living instead of looking for the government to take care of them. AS far as what happen back then look to todays activities and you will find that more blacks are killing blacks than whites did in the early years of our country. CHECK THAT OUT. SO QUIT taking our rights away and allow us the same RESPECT that we are forced to give you!!!
