The Arbor Day Foundation is one of the most nationally recognized organizations for planting and nurturing trees. Arbor Day officials say Tallahassee has received the designation 15 times, meeting the four requirements of having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and observing Arbor Day.

Hannah and Barry Davis, Tallahassee residents, said they love the local trees. "Where we come from there's no trees anywhere. There are trees, but there's not anywhere around the business district. I love this, this is the best city I've ever lived in."

Tallahassee also won an award for how well city utilities manage trees. The city encourages eligible residents to receive free trees through the adopt-a-tree program to keep the city cool. Just call the City's Streets and Drainage Division at 850-891-5676.
