At Railroad Square Friday evening, several religious and spiritual leaders blessed bicyclists and their bikes. The two wheelers set out for a weekend of bike racing and bike appreciation. The blessing even included ghost bikes--remembering those who were killed while riding.
Justin Pogge and Keith Roberson were two contributors to Ghost Bikes in Tallahassee. "I think it's just a really good way to show that cycling is a part of our culture here and you got to watch out for them on the road." said Roberson.
For Pogge, the ghost bikes are very personal. He said, "One of the documentaries we're showing talks about the ghost bikes and two of the people in the documentary are friends of mine that died, so it's really a serious subject for me."
Once the bikes were blessed, the cyclist community also gave two people the Bike Saint of the Year Award. John Robertson and Joe Mezzina were this year's Saints.
