Short Tax Free Back to School Holiday

Legislation is approaching the final approval that would cut the tax free holiday for those items from ten days to only five. Also books have been cut from the tax-free list, but it will still include clothes, shoes, and backpacks at or below 50 dollars. Although some parents are upset about the reduction, others think it's just what needs to happen to balance the budget.

Sonia Fancher a Tallahassee resident said, "I think parents can just shop during the days that they allow. You're only not paying sales tax."

The tax holiday should cost the state about 23 million dollars in lost tax revenue. The full vote will be before session closes May 2nd.
