The Gainesville Sun reported that U.F. is launching an investigation searching through faculty and student e-mails. The article said the university is looking into some illegal disclosures of private student information regarding a controversial admissions decision.
We spoke with FSU about its email policies and from what we were told, faculty e-mail is public, but student e-mail is not. However, if a student is communicating with the university, an e-mail could become public information.
In U-F's case, the investigation involves a federal law violation, which a spokesperson says is justification for the university to look through anyone's email.
