A handful of local farmers brought out the freshest fruits and vegetables to the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program at Bond Community Health Center. The public was invited to support local farmers.
But organizers say the program especially helps low-income participants of a federally-funded program purchase nutritious food with coupons.
"We're really encouraging our clients to increase their intake as far as fresh fruit and vegetable, especially for children now, from age one to five where there is 19 to 20 percent of children have problem with weight," said Leon County Health Department Nutritionist Merlinda Borgersen.
The Leon County Health Department will host the Farmer's Market once a week through the summer.
