FSU Students Down But Proud of Their Baseball Team

It was a good run--but the Seminole baseball players are coming home early from Omaha after another below par perfomance at the College World Series.

It was a quiet afternoon on FSU's campus. It could have been due to the slow summer semester, but the sadness of making it all the way just to turn back around certainly did not help pace of things.

However, many students are very proud of the Noles for even getting a crack at the series title. The Mike Martin legacy and a team that is relentless in achieving greatness is nothing to be ashamed of.

David Margulis said, "You know, I'm proud of the team, it's tough, especially loosing to Miami. Loosing to Miami hurts a lot, but I'm still proud of the team."

Dan Payne, another FSU student said, "I think it's good that we made it this year, but it sucks that we got two games and lost both games and we're out. It's even worse that we lost to Miami I think. It would have been nice to send Miami home because we sent Florida home."

The players are expected to arrive home from Omaha around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

To Johnny & all others who can't understand why Coach Martin won't shake hands w/Miami's coach Jim Morris. Here's the deal... Morris & Martin were very good friends, Martin defended Morris to the NCAA for years when Morris was being accused of cheating. Then Morris cheated on the Noles and all bets were off. Not only was Morris caught cheating (hidden cameras picking up signals) but he never once apologized to Martin. FSU didn't pursue actions b/c it was at a time when Miami was trying to get into the ACC and FSU wanted a high caliber athletic team in the ACC to help give the conf. credibility. So you have a good friend who cheats at playing on your team, never apologizes and that my friends is why Martin refuses to shake his hand. Personally, I think he needs to grow up and get over it, poor ex. to the team, but the team knows why and understands and respects their coach.

The boys still did a great job. I'm glad they got to where they got. I'm proud of them no matter what.

The baseball team needs a "coach in waiting" -- can't get the picture of a stubborn old man, standing by the dugout, refusing to show good sportsmanship out of my mind. The team has class and talent -- we need it at the coaching level too.

After FSU stranded its fifth, sixth and seventh batters of the game, Miami takes the lead in the third thanks to four walks from starter Elih Villanueva. No wonder two and out and a barbeque. When the starter struggles you immediately go to your bullpen at the first sign of trouble. a Little League coach could have done a better job than Martin. How much longer is Weatherall and the AD going to allow this class act that refused to shake hands with the Miami coaches to continue? Yea, we are proud of the team, just not the head coach.

I am in no way an FSU fan, but I was really hoping Mike Martin would finally win a championship. He has done a remarkable job as coach and has kept this program in the top for so many years. It really takes a lot just to reach the CWS and to do it so many times is even more remarkable. Keep up the great job and FSU will realize just how great a coach Martin is when he retires.
