A new faith-based student housing facility could be well on it's way to becoming a reality in Tallahassee. The Leon County commission voted six to one, allowing the Bethel Baptist Church to apply for federal bonds for the Holiday Inn student housing project.
Funding paperwork could be finalized in four to six weeks now that the project is able to move forward. "We have all had concerns about our bond rating and how this would affect us. We want to do what we can to help revitalize the French Town area and I think in the end that the majority of the questions by at least six of the commissioners were answered." said County Commissioner John Dailey.
Terry Madigan, an attorney for the Leon County Educational Facilities Authority said, "Again, this is just part of the legal process to ask the county to essentially approve that this is a project that ought to be granted the opportunity to have tax exempt bonds issued."
The next step now is to actually acquire those bonds. The county says the project does not involve tax payer dollars.
