Depuy Ethics Complaint Update
Leon County Commissioner Ed Depuy is calling for the president of the Police Benevolent Association to resign, but the PBA president has responded by asking Depuy to resign as commissioner.
The PBA president, Steve Slade, officially filed an ethics complaint against Depuy Wednesday. He says Depuy bought and sold property in the Centerville Farms development, while taking votes that enhanced the land's value.
Depuy, however, says votes made on the property were mandatory and impartial, but Slade disagrees. "He's been under investigation before and he's been clear of I think two other violations. When there's smoke there's fire and it seems like there's a lot of smoke around commissioner Depuy." said Slade.
At a press conference Wednesday, Depuy said, "The votes that are in question that I am being accused of were ministerial votes. They were like approving easements and were doing things that were no more annuring to my special benefit."
Slade and his staff at PBA say there is no reason for Depuy to call on his resignation. Depuy believes Slade's negative actions are politically motivated.
