Many long nights on patrol--the Tallahassee Police Department is working to keep driving under the influence UNDER control. TPD was just named tops in the state for DUI enforcement and education.
The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge is held every year by the Florida Department of Transportation. Since Tallahassee won the overall law enforcement award last year--it competed in the champions league. TPD won second in the overall, but officers were proud to get credit for keeping their DUI program top notch.
SGT Steve Gauding with the Tallahassee Police Department said, "It's important to us. It's nice to be recognized for what we do and it's a combination of all our efforts including education and enforcement. We do have a number of different education programs that we work real hard on."
The TPD strike force says it is on patrol every weekend and in 2007 it held 21 DUI checkpoints.
