When a criminal won't budge and the door will not open--the Tallahassee Police Department has a way of kicking the door down. The department's tactical team used live explosives to practice forcing their way in this afternoon. The team did a few walk through drills and then it was time for the real thing. TPD says although working with a live detonation cord is dangerous--it is very necessary.
LT Mark Wheeler said, "If we had to do an explosive breech somewhere, some of the biggest components of it is obviously safety for the team as well as knowing the limitations that you can, that are involved in doing this kind of stuff."
Although some techniques may not be used all the time, the Police Department says its TAC team trains all year long to be proficient.
