People started showing up as early as 6:30 p.m. at the Florida High shelter and those seeking an escape from the rain were allowed to bring their pets. The refuge at Florida High is a pet friendly shelter and a special needs shelter all in one.
The red cross says it is offering the shelter in partnership with several other agencies to have all the necessities and more. Jessica Geib, with the Capital Chapter Red Cross said, "We pre-screen all of our shelter locations to insure that they're safe and that they meet the codes. So really, this is one of the safest places that you can be during a disaster."
The Florida High Shelter is located at 3000 School House Road in Southwood and the Red Cross says it will keep the shelter open for the duration of the storm. If you plan to stay at a shelter, the Red Cross says to bring something to do and if you have children: to have anything they might need as well.
