Gadsden County is desperate for a hospital--but is the situation desperate enough to shut down the current urgent care facility? A health care consultant for the county says the urgent care center in place now, sees about twenty patients a day, but it is in the way of new hospital plans. Shutting the center down was brought up the to Gadsden County Commission Tuesday night.
The county's consultant, Joe Sharp, says if it were shut down, it would be unlikely to re-open. "As construction progresses within the facility, it will become necessary for us at some point to close down the operation of the urgent care center."
The Gadsden County Commission has not yet made a decision about shutting the center down. The county will discuss its options again in a few weeks.
