An e-mail from a viewer claimed a local Mexican restaurant was infested with roaches a few months ago and while looking to see if that was true--we found the best way to know if your favorite restaurant is up to code.

When you head out to dinner with the family, there's nothing like going to your favorite restaurant where you know the food is good. But what if you found out there were dozens of roaches crawling around in the back.

Wanda Eberhart, a Tallahassee resident said, "I don't even like a roach in my house. That's just, too much."

Just two and a half months ago, La Fiesta off of Apalachee Parkway shut down when inspectors found roaches inside the restaurant. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation said there were 25 roaches found under a dishwasher, 20 under the meat grinder, and 4 on the meat room wall--among other violations.

One restaurant patron said, "I never noticed anything that was dirty, but now I'm wondering if I had a bug because we went there recently for a party."

La Fiesta violated code July 3rd, but was reinspected and cleared to open the next day. Customers were never told, but many say they have a right to know. Thankfully, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation has a way for you to check any restaurant you want--just by heading to the department's website. Please read the instructions below.

First, Click "verify a license" at the top of the home page, then search by name and type in the restaurant's name in the space provided. Next, click your restaurant, then click view recent inspections, and click the date of any inspection you want.

La Fiesta has since been brought up to code, but to find out about your favorite restaurant, click the convenient link below.
