Americans will see about three thousand fewer flights this holiday season compared to last year. So will airports be a little more quiet this holiday travel season? Chances are they could be as crazy as ever--with people still to wanting fly and fewer flights to choose from.
According to the USA Today's analysis of the Official Airline Guide- there will be 11% fewer flights a day during Thanksgiving compared to last year with about 2.6 million less seats. And with the decrease in flights comes an increase in price.
Charlene Mays, who flew to Tallahassee to see her son said, "It's way too expensive to fly from Buffalo, New York to Tallahassee. It's like 567 a person."
Tallahassee Regional Airport, like other airports, has had its fair share of reductions with Delta pulling some of its intrastate services. Now--the best option for many Tallahassee travelers is to fly to main hubs such as Atlanta, Jacksonville or Orlando. But those major airports have also seen reductions this holiday season.
However, there are those who fly all the time who say good planning is how to find a cheap ticket to ride.
Bruce Patkunas, who flies several times a week said, "I'm looking at flights to Chicago from where I live and there appears to be enough flights on Thanksgiving Day and also coming back on Friday or Saturday for me to hit my time frames. I think if people plan their travel just slightly differently, they'll do fine"
