FAMU Students Indicted for Changing Grades

Some FAMU students are facing serious consequences for allegedly making unauthorized grade changes. The federal indictment says the three men changed grades for some 90 students.

23 year old Marcus Barrington, 27 year old Christopher Jacquette, and 22 year old Lawrence Secrease are accused of cheating the university system. The U.S. Attorney's Office says the three students changed students' residency status, changed 114 "F" grades to "A" grades, and switched about 650 grades overall. This made 90 students eligible for financial aid--who otherwise would not be. For the majority of students on a campus still working through tough -times-this news doesn't sit very well.

Kimberly Cole said, "We're all trying to build back FAMU's reputation and we all are trying to get our grades up, build a better standard for FAMU in general and when you have students bring down the accreditation of the school by actually changing grades, it actually reflects back on the school in general."

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the three conspirators obtained administrative names and passwords by installing software that is able to remember keystrokes. If the three are indicted--they could face a maximum of 20 years in prison for conspiracy, five for unauthorized access of a protected computer, and a mandatory minimum sentence of two years for aggravated identity theft.

The indictments are a result of a joint investigation by FAMU Police, the FDLE, and the FBI.
